Around the turn of the century, Saint John Paul II called for a new evangelization, “To be not afraid, to go out to the four corners of the earth, and proclaim the Truth of the Gospels.” The Gospels and all 73 books of Sacred Scripture can be summed up in one word, Jesus. He is the Alpha in Genesis (Genesis 1:1-4, John 1:1-5) and the Omega in Revelation. (Rev. 1:4-8) He was the Light in Genesis, and He was the Light when He came down from Heaven and took on human flesh. (John 1:14) He is the light in Revelation because Heaven needs no sun or moon. (Rev. 21:22-23)
He was the prophetic lamb in Genesis, caught in the thorns so Abraham could have a sacrifice. (Genesis 22:7-8, 9-13) He was the True Lamb of God announced by John the Baptist. (John 1:29-34) The sign of the Genesis prophesy came true when the soldiers held Jesus captive and crowned Him with thorns in fulfillment of the prophesy made to Abraham. (John 15:16-18) The lamb is present in Revelation, a lamb that has been slain. (Rev. 5:6-14) He is the Host of the Wedding Feast of the Lamb. (Rev. 19:5-10) Jesus is the Word, the Father’s only Word. For He said everything about His love for humanity in the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
