The Shadow of the Cross

The shadow of the Cross stretches all across history.  The order of creation points to the Cross, and the order of His Church points back.  (Colossians 1:15-29)  The Crucifixion was foreshadowed in the Garden of Eden.  When man, created in the image and likeness of God, chose evil through their own free will.  (Genesis 1:27)  From the beginning, God has given us a choice; to do His will and follow Him or not.  Adam and Eve ate from the tree of good and evil in opposition to God’s will.  They were banished before they could eat from the Tree of Life. ( Genesis 3:1-24)

In the fullness of time the second person of the Most Blessed Trinity came in the flesh to restore creation.  (Galatians 4:4-7)  During His time on earth, He lived the life every human lives.  He came here to prove that the life intended to be lived could be, but only if you follow God.  (Matthew 7:21-23)  Adam and Eve failed in that respect.  He came to earth to die.  He taught us many things, but His death and resurrection were the primary reasons for His coming.  (Matthew 17:22-23)

While He was on earth, He gave us a Church, gave it order, and the ability to last until His second coming.   (Matthew 16:13-19)  The Church looks back to Calvary at every Mass.  Christ gave His Church order so that every Christian from the crucifixion to His return will have the same relationship with Him.  The consecration of the bread and wine by the priest takes us back to the very foot of the Cross, the Tree of Life in which Christ gave His Bride, the Church, the food to sustain for these 2,000 years.  (Corinthians 11:23-29)  At the foot of the Cross, we always find His mother. (John 19:25-28) who changed the order of the world back in our favor by choosing to say “Yes” to God, and thus ensuring humanities participation in its redemption.  (Luke 1:26-38)
